Passport and other traveling documents to Malaysians abroad. At the moment, 
besides Melbourne, other Missions given the authority to accept and process

Malaysia Passport Renewal Procedure in Consulate General of Malaysia, 
Melbourne
1. Applicant below 18 years old must be accompanied by either Malaysian parent 
at Consulate office.
2. Children born in Australia with dual nationalities must provide print out of 
the Australian Declaratory visa or Australian Passport (Original & 2 
photocopies).
3. Please send your request for appointment & all scanned documents as per 
checklist to:-

4. Submission of applications Mondays to Thursdays in the morning between 9:30 
am to 11:30 am.
5. Completed applications will obtain new passport after 4 weeks.

Permanent Resident : Visa Grant Notice
Temporary Resident (min. 6 months validity required) : Visa Grant Notice; and
Please provide additional documents as below;
• Letter of Employment / Employment Contract; OR
• Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) & Student Card; OR
• Partner/Spouse/Sponsor Details; i.e Passport, Australian Visa, 
Marriage/Relationship Certificate
NOTICE: Passport renewal for Visitor Visa will not be accepted at Consulate 
office.
Specifications of Photo for Malaysian International Passport
• A photograph is taken at Passport Division using Facial Live Capture 
Recognition Device.
• Applicants should wear dark-colored clothing covering shoulders and chests.
• Taken in full-face view directly facing the camera with a neutral facial 
expression, both eyes open and mouth closed.
• Do not wear a hat or head covering/obscures hair or hairline unless worn daily 
for religious purpose. Full face must be visible, and the head covering must not 
cast any shadows on your face.
• Contact lenses and spectacles are not allowed while taking pictures.
• The applicants who wear a veil (tudung) are required to wear a dark-colored 
veil.

• Police Report / (Translation or Emergency Certificate, if any)
• Fire case or natural disaster, appropriate report from authorized department

Processing Period
Approximately two months. The application will be sent to Immigration Offices, 
Kota Kinabalu, Sabah / Kuching, Sarawak, for processing and approval.
Additional Documents for Change Of Name In The Malaysia International 
Passport
• Approval letter on the change of / additional name obtained from the Identity 
Card Division, National Registration Department, Putrajaya.
• Copy of Malaysian Identity Card (IC) / Temporary IC KPPK 09.
• Other relevant documents, such as the marriage certificate, certificate of 
baptism, certificate of religious conversion, etc. (where applicable).
* All documents are to be produced in original and photocopy upon submission.
** Please be advised that children below 4 years old are encouraged to bring 
along two pieces of a photograph with a white background. (Size 35mm x 50mm).
Presence of Applicant
• Applicant above 18 years has to be present for submission and collection of 
passport.
• Applicant below 18 years has to be present for submission and collection of 
passport. and accompanied by one of their Malaysian parents.
• Applicant below 2 years need not be present for passport collection. The 
passport can be collected by one of their Malaysian parents.

General Statement
The use of the word of ‘anak lelaki’ (AL) and ‘anak perempuan (AP) for Indian 
and non-muslims citizens on the main page has been repealed but disclosed in the 
‘OBSERVATIONS’ page.
If the applicant is under the age of 18 years, his/her parents' Malaysian 
Identity Card is required.
Malaysian passport unclaimed after three months from the date specified in the 
receipt of payment will be fortified and disposed of. The applicant must submit 
a new application and it will is processed accordingly including payment.
Particulars of children (including newborns) will no longer be included in the 
parent’s passport. The child will be issued a separate passport. A change of 
photographs for children two years and above can be made. Submit two recent 
photographs and birth certificates (original and a copy).
The applicant and his/her children must appear before the Immigration officer.
Under the Guardianship Act 1961 – Amendment (1999), consent can be given by the 
mother for the child under 18 years old.
Passports reported lost and rediscovered is not valid and the information will 
be forwarded to INTERPOL
Note
Referring to the media statement released by the Malaysian Immigration 
Director-General on 17 March 2022, effective 23 March 2022, individuals are able 
to renew their passports via the Malaysian Immigration Department's website:
https://imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/eservices/myPasport
The department introduced this additional method to assist Malaysians in 
Australia in reducing the passport renewal backlogs post COVID-19.
The whole process of application will take approximately 6-8 weeks, and 
applicants will be notified via email of the passport collection appointment at 
the selected office (Canberra/ Melbourne/ Perth) in Australia.
